Her dad finished Iditarod seventeen times and the Quest four times; and her mom ran the Iditarod once and Quest twice. When she was about 6-years-old, Marais was going out on training runs with her dad. As she got older, she took part in family camping trips in the White Mountains, Brooks Range, and Denali Park area. Marais ran her first distance race in 2022, finishing 2nd in the ACE Race junior division. Coming from a small kennel, her brother ran the Jr. Iditarod in 2023 and now it is her turn. After high school, Marais would like to go to college to study environmental engineering, astrophysics, or energy systems.
